European Union Prize for Literature 2024 til Theis Ørntoft

På Brussels Book Fair kunne man den 4. april opleve de nominerede forfattere fra 13 lande læse op af deres værker, før de syv medlemmer af juryen for Den Europæiske Unions Litteraturpris kunne afsløre årets vinder:
EUPL2024 laureate Theis Ørntoft for bogen 'Jordisk'.

Udover Theis Ørntoft fik følgende forfattere en "special mention":
Bulgarien: Todor Todorov for 'Хагабула' 
Tyskland: Deniz Utlu for 'Vaters Meer'
Island: María Elísabet Bragadóttir for 'Sápufuglinn' 
Holland: Sholeh Rezazadeh for 'Ik ken een berg die op me wacht'
Slovenien: Tina Vrščaj for 'Na klancu' 

Alle de nominerede forfattere vil nu løbende blive promoveret på den europæiske scene, med det formål at nå ud til et bredere og internationalt publikum samt få forbindelse til læsere uden for deres nationale og sproglige grænser.

Theis Ørntoft og Jordisk

Theis Ørntoft debuterede i 2009 med digtsamlingen 'Yeahsuiten', som i 2010 indbragte ham Munch-Christensens debutantpris. I 2014 fulgte digtsamlingen 'Digte 2014', og i 2018 romandebuterede han med bogen 'Solar'. Hans seneste roman 'Jordisk', som han nu har fået EUPL-prisen for, udkom i 2023, og den er også en af kandidaterne til DR Romanprisen 2024.

The European Union Prize for Literature:

The European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL er organiseret af et konsortium af sammenslutninger bestående af Federation of European Publishers (FEP) og European and International Booksellers Federation (EIBF), med støtte fra Den Europæiske Unions Creative Europe-program.

EUPLs formål er at sætte fokus på kreativiteten og den mangfoldige rigdom i Europas samtidslitteratur inden for fiktion, for at fremme cirkulationen af ​​litteratur i Europa og at tilskynde til større interesse for ikke-nationale litterære værker.

Siden dens oprettelse i 2009 har EUPL anerkendt 176 nye skønlitterære forfattere fra 40 lande fra og uden for EU, der deltager i Creative Europe-programmet.

Forfatterne og deres romaner er blevet nomineret af nationale instanser, der har kendskab til den litterære scene i deres lande og er vant til at at promovere deres egen litteratur i udlandet, og de udvalgte vinderes værker promoveres herefter i håbet om at nå ud til et bredere og internationalt publikum og røre læserne ud over nationale og sproglige grænser.
